Well, that was a short hiatus due to uncertainty and lack of inspiration. All it took was the new Nine Inch Nails song Came Back Haunted from the band's upcoming album Hesitation Marks set for release on 9/3/13.

It's definitely a mix of old-school NIN ala Pretty Hate Machine with production styles of The Downward Spiral with a bit of With Teeth in the mix filled with some sprinkling synths, snarling lyrics, swarming guitars, and all sorts of crazy shit.
